Your Postpartum Doula will work with your family to discover your particular needs, as every family’s situation is unique. Evidence-based benefits of working with a doula include decreased likelihood of postpartum mood disorders and greater success with breastfeeding. Dads/non-birthing parents also learn skills earlier and take on infant care alone sooner.
Your Postpartum Doula Provides:
4th Trimester Prep
Preparation for postpartum recovery and support.
Self-Care and Essential Rest
Time allowance for the unique needs of a new mother's body, including showering and essential rest.
Physical and Emotional Support
Assistance with recovery after labor, including carrying heavy items.
Preparation of sitz baths to aid in recovery.
Monitoring for signs of postnatal mood disorders or bleeding issues.
Breastfeeding Support
Assistance with basic latch and positions, bottle-feeding, and education on pumping and milk storage.
Formula Feeding Support
Help with bottle-feeding, bottle preparation, and related tasks.
Emotional Support
Nonjudgmental emotional support, including listening and helping to process the birth story for both parents.
Support for the partner in adjusting to parenthood and transitioning in their relationship.
Sibling Adjustment
Assistance with older siblings adjusting to the new family member.
Education for parents on activities to help children bond with the new sibling.
Newborn Care Education
Guidance on specialized newborn care, such as swaddling, diapering, hygiene, umbilical cord and circumcision care, and bathing.
Nutrition and Hydration
Nutritional and hydration support for the family.
Light Housekeeping
Assistance with tasks such as bottle washing/sterilizing, baby's laundry, nursery restock, and tidying up.
Referrals and Resources
Referrals to local resources including parenting classes, pediatricians, lactation support, and support groups.
